Amber (“we,” “us”) is an AI family assistant delivered via web and SMS. This policy describes what we collect, how we use it, and your choices. We keep it short and plain. If anything here is unclear, email us at [email protected].
Information we collect
- Account information: your name, mobile phone number, email address, date of birth, and timezone. We collect these during signup to provide the service.
- Family information: family name, other members you invite, their roles and permissions, and the relationships you describe.
- Conversations: messages you exchange with Amber (our AI assistant), including via web chat and SMS. We store these to deliver the service and improve responses.
- Integrations: if you choose to connect Google Calendar, Gmail, Amazon, or similar, we access only what you authorize and use it to fulfill your requests.
- Payment information: handled by Stripe. We never see or store full card numbers.
- Technical data: IP address, browser type, and basic access logs, used for security and to keep the service running.
How we use your information
- To run the assistant — scheduling, reminders, drafting emails, placing orders, and answering questions you ask.
- To verify your identity during signup (SMS and email one-time codes).
- To send invites and notifications to family members you add.
- To enforce family privacy rules — calendar details, preferences, and 1:1 threads are kept private per member.
- To prevent abuse, debug issues, and comply with applicable law.
SMS and mobile messaging
If you provide your mobile number, Amber may send you SMS for:
- Account verification (one-time passcodes).
- Invitations to join a family.
- Chore, birthday, and calendar reminders.
- Daily or weekly recap digests (only when you enable them).
- Conversational replies from Amber to messages you initiate.
Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Consent to receive SMS is not a condition of any purchase.
We do not share your mobile number with third parties or affiliates for their marketing purposes. We share it only with our telecommunications provider for the sole purpose of delivering the messages you request.
Reply STOP at any time to unsubscribe. You will receive one confirmation message and then no further texts from us. Reply START to resubscribe, or update your preferences at hiamber.ai. Reply HELP for help, or email [email protected].
Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal information. We share only what is required with the following categories of service providers, each bound by contract:
- Messaging (SMS / iMessage): Linq
- Email delivery: Google Workspace
- AI processing: Azure OpenAI (messages are processed to generate assistant replies)
- Payments: Stripe
- Hosting and infrastructure: Vercel, Railway, Cloudflare
- Calendar and email integrations you connect: Google, etc. (only at your direction)
We may disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights, or in connection with a merger or acquisition (in which case we'll notify you).
Family privacy rules
Amber enforces privacy between family members by design. Calendar details are never shared between members (free/busy only). Personal preference profiles are private per user. 1:1 threads with the assistant are invisible to other family members, including parents. Gift planning details are kept private to the planner.
Children
Amber is not available to children under 13 as an independent account. Our signup flow blocks birthdates under 13. A parent may add a child under 13 as a parent-managed profile from their family settings, and the parent controls all communication channels.
Your choices and rights
- Access and correction: view or update your profile at hiamber.ai/settings/account.
- Delete your data: delete your account from settings, or email [email protected].
- Opt out of SMS: reply STOP to any message.
- California, EU/UK, and other jurisdictions: you may have additional rights (access, portability, deletion, objection). Email us to exercise them.
Data retention
We retain account data while your account is active, and for a limited time afterward to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Conversational data is retained to provide personalization; you can delete individual threads or your full account at any time.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If changes are material we'll notify you by email or SMS and update the “Last updated” date at the top.
